Training Groups
Please Note:
-Families need to be members of The Country Club at Woodmoor to join the Tsunamis Swim Team.
-While we do have some equipment on hand at the pool for kids to use, we encourage parents to purchase kids their own training equipment (kickboard, fins, pull buoy, paddles, etc). See the training group descriptions for what is necessary for each group.
White Group
Monthly Fee: $60
Practice Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
Practice Time: 9-10am Weekdays, 8:30-9:30am Saturdays
Performance Requirements: Complete 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke swimming without stopping, demonstrate the ability to consistently listen and following coaches instructions. Additionally, athletes must be comfortable in deep water.
Equipment Used: Swimsuit, Goggles, Swim Cap (for girls), Kickboard, Fins, Mesh Bag, Water Bottle.
Description: Swimmers in the White Group will generally be ages 12 and younger who are making the transition from swim lessons into competitive swimming or have an interest in swimming but have never done so competitively. This group serves to begin the development of athletes into competitive swimmers. The focus will be the introduction and refinement of stroke technique.
Green Group
Monthly Fee: $80
Practice Days: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Practice Time: 9-10am Weekdays, 8:30-9:30am Saturdays
Performance Requirements: Complete 50 yards of all 4 strokes legally, participate in all team intrasquad meets and at least 2 additional meets throughout each season. Athletes must demonstrate the ability to consistently listen and follow coaches instructions.
Equipment Used: Swimsuit, Goggles, Swim Cap (for girls), Kickboard, Fins, Mesh Bag, Water Bottle.
Description: Swimmers in the Green Group will generally be ages 12 and younger. This group serves to continue the development of athletes into competitive swimmers. The focus will be refinement of stroke technique, introduction to turns, starts, proper underwater streamline position and use of the pace clock.
Blue Group
Monthly Fee: $100
Practice Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday
Practice Time: 8:30-10am Weekdays, 9:30am-11am Saturdays
Performance Requirements: Complete 100 yards of all 4 strokes legally, perform all starts, turns and underwater streamlines legally, use the pace clock as a part of practice, participate in all team intrasquad meets and at least 2 additional meets throughout each season. Athletes must be able to swim 3 x 100 Freestyle swim on 1:50 and 4 x 50 Swim (1 of Each Stroke) on 1:00 continuously. Additionally, athletes must demonstrate the ability to consistently listen and follow coaches instructions.
Equipment Used: Swimsuit, Goggles, Swim Cap (for girls), Kickboard, Fins, Pull Buoy, Mesh Bag, Water Bottle.
Description: Swimmers in the Blue Group will generally be ages 10 to 13 years old. The group will focus on continued refinement of stroke technique, turns, proper underwater streamline position, and starts. They will be introduced to training concepts (practice set up including warm up, small sets, cool down). When ready, swimmers will be given more demanding training requirements to better prepare them for longer races and give optimal effort while maintaining correct technique.
Pre-Senior Group
Monthly Fee: $105
Practice Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday
Practice Time: 8:15-10am Weekdays, 9:30am-11am Saturdays
Performance Requirements: Complete 200 yards of all 4 strokes legally, perform all starts, turns and underwater streamlines legally, use the pace clock as a part of practice, participate in all team intrasquad meets and at least 1 meet per month throughout each season. Swimmers must attend practice regularly and be able to successfully swim 5 x 100 Freestyle swim on 1:30 and 4 x 100 IM on 1:50 continuously. Additionally, athletes must demonstrate the ability to consistently listen and follow coaches instructions.
Equipment Used: Swimsuit, Goggles, Swim Cap (for girls), Kickboard, Fins, Paddles, Pull Buoy, Mesh Bag, Water Bottle.
Description: Swimmers in the Pre-Senior Group are generally 10-14 years old. Swimmers know how to legally perform all four competitive strokes, starts and turns, and use a pace clock. The focus of this group is to prepare athletes, both physically and mentally, for the transition from age group level swimming to senior level swimming. They will learn about taking personal responsibility in their own training habits, more complex swimming terminology as it relates to their training and more advanced racing strategies during meets. They will continue to emphasize proper stroke technique, developing an aerobic foundation and be introduced to dryland training.
Senior Group
Monthly Fee: $155
Practice Days: Monday – Friday, Saturday
Practice Time: 7-9am Weekdays, 9:30am-11am Saturdays
Performance Requirements: Swimmers must attend practice regularly and be able to successfully swim 5 x 100 Freestyle swim on 1:20 and 3 x 200 IM on 3:15 continuously. Additionally, athletes must demonstrate the ability to consistently listen and follow coaches instructions.
Equipment Used: Swimsuit, Goggles, Swim Cap (for girls), Kickboard, Fins, Paddles, Pull Buoy, Snorkel, Mesh Bag, Water Bottle.
Description: Swimmers in the Senior Group are generally in high school or are 13 and older. They are prepared to make a higher commitment to themselves and the team. Swimmers know how to legally perform all four competitive strokes, starts and turns legally. The focus of this group is stroke mechanics, challenging aerobic and anaerobic training sets, race strategies and dryland. Team leadership and being role models for the younger swimmers is expected. Swimmers are expected to participate in all team intrasquad meets & at least 1-2 meets per month
